Depending upon the nature of starting material, chemical and electrochemical processes including leaching, precipitation, solvent extraction or electrolysis are used. Further refining utilizes physical methods, i. e. distillation, vacuum heating treatment, zone-refining and crystal pulling. After completion of these steps the products only contain impurities in the level of “parts per million” (ppm) or even “parts per billion” (ppb). Particular customer
requirements regarding certain specifitcations are taken into account.
As a result, sophisticated refining and analytical methods have to be
adapted not only to a specific product, but also to the various raw materials
from which these products are derived. |
